The Bouquet | Bouquet Trivia Bouquet History

Tossing the bouquet is a tradition that stems from England. Women used to try to rip pieces of the bride's dress and flowers in order to obtain some of her good luck. To escape from the crowd the bride would toss her bouquet and run away.

There are two stories that I found when it comes to the history of the bouquet. One says each flower has a symbolic meaning, and bouquets are often constructed based on those meanings. Some popular wedding flowers include the... rose (love), lily of the valley (happiness), carnation (devotion), calla lily (beauty), tulip (passion), chrysanthemum (wealth) and gardenia (grace).

The other story is much more interesting and fun! It suggests that weddings were commonly held in June because the annual bath was taken in May, so the couples were still fairly clean. And the bride carried fragrant bouquets of flowers to mask any odors she may have! Love it!!! :D
